Facebook was initially founded by psychology student Mark Zuckerberg, at Harvard University in February 2004, where it was originally known as ‘The Facebook’. By August 2005, it was officially registered as Facebook.com and was open to students from all US universities. High school students in the US could register from September 2005, quickly followed by university students from across the world. Anyone with a valid email address is now able to register on the site which remains free to use as it is paid for by advertisements. In 2012, Facebook was listed on the stock market for the first
