The use of social media for marketing has, over the last few years, become increasingly important and whilst the number of these sites are growing, one of the most important of these is still Twitter.
Twitter is a great tool for making announcements or highlighting products or special offers and these can be made much easier for others to find by the use of hashtags. However, there are some ‘rules’ to using a hashtag which will get much better results.
1. Don’t #hashtag too many words in your short tweet, only do so on the word that you are hoping that people will find.
2. Make sure that if your product, for example, has two words to it, that you run these together when using the hashtag. For example, it should be #fredsboots and not #freds boots as the second will only detect the tag ‘freds’.
Whatever promotion you are targeting though; keep it short, snappy and effective.
